PuRR's "Caternity" casita
On August 6th, my sister, Kerry, and I made a trip out to the Purr Project to donate some supplies. Our mother, Shari Campbell, lived in Puerto Vallarta for almost 20 years and passed away last October. We have been going through her house and trying to find things the shelter might need, like old sheets, towels, pillows and even some tubs for litter boxes. I had been out to the shelter once before, and was looking forward to showing my sister the shelter, knowing she’d really enjoy it.
The family living on the grounds were really nice and just let us walk around and visit with the kitties. The shelter is amazing….it’s quiet and peaceful and you’d never know there almost 300 cats and kittens living there. It’s fun to look around and see where they are all hiding….up in trees, on the roof, sleeping in chairs…every little corner of the shelter has a “little surprise” waiting for you. The best is when you sit down on the path and let the cats come to you….they are always so happy to have the company and attention. As always, my favorite is the “Caternity”, where the kittens reside. I went inside and they all surrounded me!
I wish the Purr Project was a little closer to me in Puerto Vallarta, so I could visit a little more frequently, but I will definitely be visiting again in the nearby future ! For now, I help out at the Plaza Marina with adoptions on Fridays and am currently trying to help plan a fashion show to feature clothes from my mother’s store, Caprichoso, in Plaza Neptuno, to benefit Purr Project! And just as I figured, my sister enjoyed it just like I thought she would. She fell in love with a big orange cat, whom we found out was “Big Orange Boy”, and if she was allowed to have pets in her current apartment, she would have taken him back up to Washington DC to live
