Bringing a rescued cat to PuRR Project

accepts rescued cats, both tame and feral, from folks like you. Even though our goal is to find “forever homes” for our residents by way of our adoption program, the truth is that many of our residents will never leave PuRR. Many of our cats are feral, and others simply are not candidates for adoption due to skittish personalities and the like. We are most pleased to provide a home for these ‘non-adoptable’ cats for the rest of their lives here in our PuRR Project gardens. So tame or feral, our doors are open! Always check with us before trapping a cat for rescue to be sure we are accepting felines at that time.

Rescued felines only — No pets please

For folks who would like to bring a rescued cat to PuRR Project, we want you to know that we accept cats or kittens that have been recently rescued only. We do not accept someone's pet cat that for whatever reason needs to find a new home, no. Why? It's simple. It's not a fair placement for the cat. Cats that have experienced living in a private home do not do well suddenly changing to a “shelter lifestyle”. And this is “tried and true” right on the PuRR Project grounds. We admit that we have broken our own rule on this and have accepted pets in need of placement because of folks moving, financial reasons, etc… But, and so unfortunately, things did not work out well for those cats so our policy on this is now very firm. We receive only recently rescued cats and kittens – and we do so with open arms!

Procedure for adult cats

• • Have the cat spayed or neutered at a local veterinarian's office
  
  
• • Vaccinate the cat with the 3 standard vaccines (the vet will know)
  
  
• • Have the cat de-wormed and flea free.
  
  
• • Ask the vet to prepare a “Carnet” or tracking card where the vet
  signs that all of the procedures above have been completed noting the dates.
  
  
• • Email our site administrator at: info@purrproject.com to make an appointment at PuRR Project's on-site clinic to deliver the cat. The driving instructions are easy to follow – be sure to request them. Cats must be received by one of our on-duty veterinarians. No other PuRR Project employee is authorized to receive your donated feline.

Procedure for kittens

Contact our site administrator. Why? Each kitten donation is a little bit different depending upon the specifics of the kitten/kittens (ie; some are too young for the vaccines, etc…). And as above, you'll be asked to make an appointment at PuRR Project for delivery.

Monetary donation requested to receive a rescued feline

We are so proud of the work we do at PuRR Project! We are not government funded but instead run solely on donations. We have our doors open because of generous people who donate money to our cause. Without donations we would have to close our doors and so many felines would suffer as a result. When we ask you for a monetary donation when you bring a cat to us, please understand why.

We request a donation of 100 US dollars or the equivalent in Mexican Pesos per cat received. On the day of your appointment, it is important to bring your donation, the tracking card – and of course the kitty! Your donation is greatly appreciated and will contribute to keeping our shelter up and running so that we may continue to receive rescued felines in the future.
